Moving media work into controlled background processing.

Media Processing Pipeline · Engineering overview

The problem

Media jobs combine API requests, queues, worker processes, storage and encoders. Their behaviour depends on how those parts work together, especially when a task takes longer than a normal web request.

Conceptual flow, simplified for this overview.

Engineering focus

  • Job APIs, Celery worker configuration and storage integration
  • Video encoding and encoder capability validation
  • Deployment infrastructure and processing workflows

Validating the processing path

Encoder capability has to be checked with an actual encoding operation. This work includes encoder validation alongside the APIs, queue configuration and storage integration around the jobs.

Worker concurrency and queue behaviour are part of the processing system, not incidental settings. My focus includes the relationship between job dispatch, workers and the encoding workload.

Current status

In development

In development. The current engineering focus is the processing workflow, encoder validation and worker configuration.
